This is another mixed media that was started using Venetian Plaster as a base. The texture that this creates is wonderful.

In the Looking Glass

This piece started with a layer of Golden's Molding Paste, very thick. Once I put paint to it I didn't like the thickness of it so used an electric sander and sanded the texture flat. I then went over the painted layer with Venetian Plaster and painted more. It is called 'In the Looking Glass' because there is a woman's face in the upper panel.

This isn't quite as dark as it looks here. This was done using Venetian Plaster and acrylic paint and came out looking like an old photograph that was found in someone's attic.

Cruis'in for Chicks

This is on a 24x36 canvas. I painted the original scene, then covered it with Goldens soft gel that dries clear. I then painted it again, more soft gel and more paint giving this a real depth.

Cruis'in for Chicks, the young stallion has been forced from the herd and must now find 'ladies' of his own. I have since added more mares.

This is a 6x12 wrap around canvas painted with acrylics. The painting continues on all sides of the canvas and protrays the start of a beautiful morning.

Letters from Home

This finished work has four paintings underneath. I started several different collages, not satisfied with any, but the last one had raised letters. I then covered the entire canvas with Golden's Absorbent Ground (dries white) except for the letters, which I left to show through. I then painted an old farm scene and called it 'Letters from Home'.

Leave Them Wild

This painting was accomplished by using soft gel medium to create texture and then painting the scene. The title 'Leave Them Wild' is pretty self explanatory.

Collage #14

This collage is many layers of paper, paint, a piece of lace, rubber stamps with the final product being modeling paste. After the paste dries, more paint is scrubbed into it for a finished smooth look.

Just a Quick Trip to the Store

White gesso was brushed over a piece of illustration board and in some areas quite heavy for texture. I then painted the sky, put collage paper over the mountains and continued to paint. There are several layers of collage paper and paint on the mountains, with more gesso to give the appearance of heavy snow.

I started this collage as a demo while teaching a class. I finished it once home and added rubber stamps, paper, paint and straw. Once again the final layer is modeling paste in ramdom spots and then scrubbing paint into it. The first image is very close to the original in color and the second I enhanced to bring out the texture of the painting.

Nature's Beauties

I painted this about a year ago and was not completely happy with it. Since then I covered the entire painting with Golden Soft Gel, matte and then painted the scene over again. The gels give an entirely different textured look to the image and I am now a happy camper.

Praying for Buffalo

This is a brand new painting depicting the warrior praying for the buffalo that is the mainstay of the American Indians every day life. If the buffalo don't migrate to the hunting grounds there is a good chance of starvation for the entire tribe during the harsh winter.

Before the Wars

The title 'Before the Wars' was given because in the background there are covered wagons as well as tepees. This original watercolor is hanging in our hallway and is matted and framed with a small Indian war ax mounted underneath. The ax was made for me by a 19 year old Sioux Indian from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. While the original is not for sale, there are giclee prints available. Matted size with arrowhead and feathers in a cutout on the side is 26"x33".

In this textured painting you don't know if the birds spooked the buffalo or the buffalo spooked the birds. You decide. The image size is 13 3/4" x 13 3/4" and framed it is 21 1/2" x 21 1/2".

Everything surrounding the buffalo is textured collage with the exception of the white. I painted it as one large piece then cut out the buffalo and mounted both pieces on Mulberry textured paper. The framed image is 26"x26"

Miniatures

Below are some unique 4"x 4" frames with the image 2" x 2". I found the company that makes these frames after 'googleing' until I was blue in the face, but am very pleased with the outcome. I have many of these on display in my shows. Each painting is an original. The frames have a stand for table display or they can be hung on a wall.

This is a very simple collage using just a rubber stamp, a real stamp, tissue paper and paint. I have a lot of 'old world' items to use in collage including my grandfather's passport, visa and naturalisation papers when he came to this country in 1912. I make copies and transfer them on tissue paper for a delightful effect. Image size is 5"x5".

This was an early collage using lace, textured paper, a rubber stamp of a woman's face and paint. I also show this as an example for teaching the beginning class that I give.

Autumn Blaze

The original painting was done using the Masa (in the rice paper family) paper procedure that is explained a little in the next painting. It creates texture on the top half of the painting. Matted size 22"x30".

Friend or Foe?

On this painting, Masa paper was used after soaking in water, wadding it up in a ball to break the sizing, drying and then adhering it over the entire piece of Illustration Board. The texture of the Masa gives the rocks a really nice three dimensional look. If you enlarge the print you will see two people in the background crossing the river. Matted size is 22"x26".

I Win

Wouldn't it be fun to be on the sidelines and watch wolves play? This original painting was done with Masa paper, soaked, dried and then adhered to Illustration Board. Matted size is 22"x30".

Don't Move

The original painting was done with Masa paper on the top half creating a lot of texture in the tree area. The 'Don't Move' leaves the viewer to wonder which one is saying that, the man in the background or the bear. Matted print is 22"x25".

Winter Village

This is also one of my favorites. The original was painted on illustration board and was done just after I returned from one of the workshops with Morten Solberg. The man taught me not to be afraid of a white piece of paper. Matted prints 22"x30".

Buffalo were a mainstay of plains Indian life, furnishing food, clothing, shelter, weapons and material for spiritual ceremonies.

I started this watercolor to go with 'Going to Meet the Family' but when the trees were finished the look was so 'cold' that it had to be a winter scene. This matted print is 24"x34".
